CBC Merit Awards: Luther Burbank School Takes Home Top Honors in CBC/COAA Owners’ Choice Category

May 2019

Burbank School District 111, ICI and CannonDesign were recognized for the design and construction of the new Luther Burbank School at the 2019 Chicago Building Congress Merit Awards. The school received top honors in the CBC/COAA Owners’ Choice category!

For more than 60 years, the Merit Awards program has celebrated the Chicagoland building industry by recognizing the most outstanding projects in a variety of categories and project types. Entrants are judged individually in multiple judging sessions by a panel of forty Chicago Building Congress member volunteers based on the following:

  • distinctive, functional, or innovative design
  • quality of construction
  • impact of the project upon the community
  • safety record

In the case of the CBC/COAA category, the project is judged on five additional criteria:

  • end-user satisfaction
  • project team collaboration
  • schedule and cost management
  • innovation
  • the project delivery method

ICI is immensely proud of the recognition and our contribution to the newly completed 21st-century learning environment created for the Burbank community. Included within the award entry were the following words from Dr. Franzy Fleck, Superintendent of Burbank Elementary School District 111:

“Our new Burbank School would not have become a reality without ICI and CannonDesign’s ability to take so many stakeholder ideas and craft a workable plan. Our community is deeply proud of our new school.”
