Opening in April: Mariano’s Ravenswood and Joe Caputo & Sons Northbrook

Chicago and its surrounding suburbs have seen considerable change in where and how we shop for our groceries in recent years. According to the biennial Mid-America Urban Grocery Study conducted in the fall of 2013, there was an incredible 60% increase in new square footage devoted to the gourmet grocery sector in Chicago and its surroundings suburbs between 2011 and 2013. Additionally, the study states Chicagoans saw nearly a 42% increase in the number of new gourmet grocery store openings.

ICI’s strong background in grocery store construction has led to our current opportunity to take part in the transformation Chicagoans are experiencing. ICI is currently building two highly anticipated stores: the Mariano’s in Ravenswood and the Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market in Northbrook; a conversion of a former Dominick’s.

Mariano’s Ravenswood

1800 West Lawrence Avenue, Chicago


Construction is wrapping up on ICI’s interior build-out of the 88,000 square foot Mariano’s within the Ravenswood Station retail development. The 10,500 square foot ground level features a massive atrium, a café and lounge area as well as escalators, stairs and elevators to the upper levels; where the majority of the food departments and pharmacy are located. The expansive 75,000 square foot second floor features a large beer, wine and spirits department in the southeast corner, a sushi bar, a bakery, a BBQ eatery and a large produce department; to name a few amenities. The upper level contains an entrance from the attached parking deck and lobby space. As of April 8th, the gourmet grocery store will be open to the public.


Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market

4125 Dundee Road, Northbrook


In early 2014, Joe Caputo & Sons took over the 52,000 square foot existing Dominick’s store located on the corner of Dundee and Sanders in Northbrook. In what marks ICI’s second project for the gourmet grocer, ICI was hired to quickly re-image the space to the Caputo’s brand that has become so well-known in the northwest suburbs. The scope of work includes the complete removal and replacement of all lighting and flooring. The refrigerated cases are being relocated in order to increase functionality and highlight the grocer’s products. The walk-in produce, meat and seafood coolers will all be replaced. Additionally, the entire space will be repainted to further reinforce the Caputo brand. The fast-track project is due to open in April.
