A Warm Welcome for Chicago’s Newest Walmart Supercenter

On Wednesday, September 11, the Walmart Supercenter in Chicago’s Pullman Park neighborhood opened its doors to the public for the first time. A ribbon cutting ceremony held one day prior reinforced the significance of this construction project to the surrounding community. Hundreds attended; among them were Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Alderman Anthony Beale, both of whom expressed the positive impact the store will have on Pullman Park.

Construction of the $16.5 million, 155,000 SF superstore began last fall and was completed late summer. The greatly anticipated store will provide a source for fresh and healthy food options for the surrounding community.  In addition to the typical departments within a Walmart store, the project features a pharmacy and vision center. Perhaps the most unique feature of the new store is the building’s green roof system spanning nearly the entire square footage of the roof.
