ICI completed a 14,000 SF renovation in Benedictine University’s Birck Hall of Science in January 2009.

At the project start, the University outlined that the classrooms needed to be complete before the start of the Spring semester. As such, ICI developed an aggressive schedule which ensured on- time delivery. Work began in November, 2008 and completed one week ahead of the original 32 week schedule.

The renovations included turning unused, basement space into 5 general classrooms, 1 large lecture hall, 3 break out rooms, 1 seminar room, a laser lab, computer science teaching lab, an NMR room, and 4 spaces for office use.

Logistically, parts of the renovation were very challenging. ICI installed a large air handling unit in the basement which, due to its size, had to be brought in piece by piece and assembled on-site.

ICI carefully coordinated work around class and staff schedules, ensuring that Birck Hall was functional for the duration of the project.

Ultimately, ICI completed the project ahead of schedule and $74,000 under the original budget. Included in this savings was $33,000 in value engineering alternatives offered by ICI and accepted by the University.
