ICI began construction on The Clayton in early summer 2015 and turned over the completed project in March 2016. The 14,000 square foot concept includes cigar retail space on the first floor and private cigar club spaces for its members on floors two, three as well as in the basement. The building is located at the corner of Milwaukee and Canal Street in downtown Chicago.
Construction included the renovation of all four floors, the installation of four glass enclosed humidors as well as recertification of an elevator and dumbwaiter. ICI installed completely new electrical and mechanical systems and created a new ADA compliant entry.
The project required modification of the existing wood structural systems in order to support the mechanical equipment and ICI partnered with the design team and engineers to maintain the desired look while achieving the necessary modifications.
Due to its placement on a tight city site, materials were craned into the building through upper level windows.
The space is finished in high-end materials such as marble, simulated reclaimed wood flooring, tile and light fixtures with a dimming package.
The Clayton offers many amenities for its members, such as a steam room and several private meeting and gathering areas in the basement and second and third floors.
