ICI was contracted by Walmart to construct a new $19 million store in Cicero, Illinois. The store was constructed on a 26-acre parcel in a heavily industrial area at 33rd Street and Cicero Avenue, north of Hawthorne Race Course. Throughout the excavation, construction crews moved 200,000 cubic yards of dirt.
The 177,557 square foot Walmart Supercenter was constructed throughout the fall and winter months and opened in the spring of 2014. At the groundbreaking, Town officials remarked on the significance of this construction project for Cicero, as it provided more than 400 new jobs (many of which went directly to residents) and advanced the progress on their Sportsman’s Park Redevelopment program. The western portion of the Sportsman’s Park Redevelopment site currently houses the 604,145 square foot Wirtz Beverage Illinois office and distribution center. As part of the project scope, ICI also prepared two of the five surrounding outlots for future tenants.
