The International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) is a labor union representing men and women engaged in the operation and maintenance within industrial, commercial, and institutional facilities. The Local 399 chapter is based in Chicago and represents more than 10,000 workers in Illinois and northwest Indiana.
When the Local 399 began the process of renovating a facility for their training, ICI was hired. The ICI team’s scope of work consisted of repurposing an existing warehouse into an educational training center. The building is located in Chicago’s Chinatown neighborhood along the Chicago River.
ICI completely transformed the 27,600 square foot building by adding a second-floor structure with a mezzanine. Classrooms and training spaces were constructed, new windows were installed throughout the building and a stunning new two-story steel canopy entry point was also created. Additionally, ICI completed masonry tuck-pointing, new utilities were brought to the building, landscaping was installed and the team created a secure parking lot.
