Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
ICI was contracted in early fall 2012 to construct a new 155,000 SF Wal-Mart in Chicago’s Pullman Park neighborhood.
The $16.5 million facility, situated on more than 15 acres, is unique in the sense that the City outlined specific Minority Business Participation (MBE) goals. As such, ICI worked with the Alderman to employee community residents on-site. MBE subcontractors fulfilled several major trades. Upon completion, ICI far exceeded goals and achieved a total of 47.53% (28.16% African-American and 19.37% Hispanic) MBE participation levels.
The project also incorporated many sustainable features including a green roof system spanning the majority of the building’s massive roof. The project is capable of retaining 2.1 million gallons of water in a single year.
The project was completed in late summer 2013 and the ribbon cutting was attended by many members of the surrounding community as well as Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
