ICI was selected by Benedictine University through a competitive selection process for 14,000 square feet of renovations to the Birck Hall of Science. The project is significant for ICI as it launched a long-term relationship with the University that led to monumental building projects such as the University’s Daniel L. Goodwin Hall of Business.
At the project start, the University outlined that the classrooms needed to be complete before the start of the Spring semester. ICI developed an aggressive schedule to ensure on-time delivery. Work began in November and was completed one week ahead of the 32 week schedule.
The renovations included turning unused, basement space into five general classrooms, one large lecture hall, three break-out rooms, one seminar room, a laser lab, computer science teaching lab, an NMR room, and four spaces for office use. Parts of the renovation were logistically challenging. ICI installed a large air handling unit in the basement which, due to its size, had to be brought in piece by piece and assembled on-site.
