Since 2013, ICI has been contracted for five Sam’s Club projects: a new store in Romeoville, Illinois and renovations to stores in Des Plaines, Illinois; Waukesha, Wisconsin; Cicero, Illinois and Davenport, Iowa. Each of these projects came as a result of ICI’s existing relationship with Walmart, which began in 2006.
In 2013, ICI was awarded the construction of a new ground up Sam’s Club on Weber Road in Romeoville, Illinois via competitive bidding process. The new 136,000 square foot retail store is positioned on a pad-ready site adjacent to an existing Wal-Mart store. Because the stores share the same ownership, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. opted to carry several design elements from the existing Walmart store through to the new Sam’s Club. Among them is a stone column detail applied to the south and west elevations of the new store. The project also included the construction of a new gas station positioned in front of the store along Weber Road.
The project initially had a 35 week construction schedule and was due to be delivered in early September 2013. Although this schedule was rigorous, the site was pad ready and the façade was comprised of pre-cast panels; project attributes well-suited for a tight schedule. Several weeks into construction, however, Walmart approached ICI with their goal of accelerating the already aggressive schedule by an additional two weeks. The project team rose to the challenge and delivered this $10.3 million project in mid-August.
All other subsequent renovation in Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa were also awarded via a competitive bidding process.
