ICI was hired as Elmwood Park Community Unit School District 401’s construction manager in 2013 through a competitive selection process. The District was embarking upon a long-term capital improvement plan and needed a construction manager specializing in K-12 education to act as a trusted partner and advisor throughout the process. Throughout the years, ICI has taken on several comprehensive educational improvement programs at each of the District’s facilities. Recently, ICI undertook the largest capital improvement program ever implemented by the District at Elmwood and John Mills Elementary Schools. The project cost totaled nearly $45 million and was funded by a recent referendum that was overwhelmingly approved by the constituents of Elmwood Park CUSD 401.
Sixty thousand square feet of John Mills Elementary School were renovated during the summers of 2022 and 2023. All classrooms were renovated and HVAC systems were replaced. A 7,500 square foot addition was constructed to house kindergarten, pre-k, and bilingual kindergarten. The renovations also created focused grade level areas throughout the building allowing for future curriculum flexibility. Concurrent construction also took place at Elmwood Elementary School as part of the referendum.
